Our Mission and Vision

The mission of Threshold is to improve the quality of life for adults with serious mental illness living in Durham County. We are committed to facilitating personal well-being and community involvement through meaningful work and relationships. We put these commitments into practice by providing an environment of opportunities and supports that address the vocational, educational, social, recreational and residential needs of those we serve.

Threshold strives to be an exemplary model for the community while promoting awareness of and appreciation for those among us living with mental illness in Durham County.  Threshold affirms the dignity and worth of all members by fostering an environment of acceptance, supportive relationships and access to resources. It provides the foundation from which new experiences and attainment of one’s full potential can occur.

Men’s Health Month

June marks Men’s Health Month, and at Threshold, we’re using this time to focus on the importance of supporting men’s overall well-being—physically, emotionally, and mentally. In recognition of this, we’re dedicating an entire week to thoughtful programming that opens the door for connection, creativity, and conversation. Throughout the week, Members are invited to explore topics that are often overlooked or unspoken, from mental health stigma to daily wellness habits. This week is all about showing up for one another, breaking down barriers, and creating a space where men feel seen, heard, and supported.

Celebrating 40 Years Member Blog

In celebration of our 40th anniversary, Threshold is releasing monthly conversations between members and staff on topics related to living with mental illness. Click here to listen and gain insight, understanding, and connection through these powerful stories.

In celebration of two fun national days, Threshold is hosting special events for Members to enjoy and connect. In honor of National Donut Day on June 6th, Members will learn how to make their own donuts during a hands-on activity on June 5th. Later in the month, we’ll celebrate National Bingo Day (June 27th) a few days early with a festive Bingo event on June 24th in the Great Room. These events offer a great chance to build community, try something new, and have some lighthearted fun together.
