PBS to Feature Clubhouse International CEO During Mental Health Month

CEO Joel D. Corcoran Featured on PBS Broadcast During Mental Health Month

For the eighth season of the Emmy® nominated public television series Healthy Minds, Joel D. Corcoran joins Dr. Jeffrey Borenstein to discuss how the Clubhouse approach to recovery integrates into community health systems around the world to provide a solution for people living with serious mental illness.

The eighth season of Healthy Minds debuts nationally during Mental Health Awareness Month (May). This new season includes 13 new half-hour episodes, featuring inspiring personal stories of people living with mental illness and experts who share insightful information on a variety of topics in mental health, including new approaches to mental health care.

2024 Legislative Breakfast was a huge success!

Special thanks to Threshold volunteers, Club Nova, and Faith Connections on Mental Illness for providing our amazing team of volunteers for the Breakfast 🤩

At the event over 400 participants heard presentations and policy proposals from DHHS Secretary Kody Kinsley, members of the North Carolina General Assembly, faculty and medical providers from Duke and UNC, and “lived experience” speakers.” ‘

Free Lunch Day at Threshold!

Thanks to a federal grant made possible by Durham Congregations in Action we are to provide a Free Lunch Day to our members at Threshold!

Free Lunch Day will take place on Tuesdays of each week, providing a healthy meal that will be handed out before members leave for the day. The menu for Free Lunch will vary each week.

We are looking forward to sharing our delicious free lunches with members!

Remembering Susie Deter

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our long-time, former executive director, Susie Deter. Susie was a fierce leader and mental health advocate for Threshold for over 18 years until her retirement in 2015. She will be dearly missed by our members and staff.

CROP Hunger Walk 2022!

Threshold staff and members enjoyed participating in Durham's Crop Hunger Walk 2022 on Sunday, April 10! The Walk raised over $100,000 for hunger-fighting efforts in the Durham community.

We are so grateful to Jewish for Good, who mulched and planted 200 tulip and flower bulbs around the perimeter of our Clubhouse on Christmas Eve.

This year we have been fortunate enough to prepare more than 60 Christmas gifts for our members! We will be distributing these gifts at the Clubhouse as well as delivering to those who cannot come in-person.


New Desktop Computers for Members

Threshold and its members sincerely thank Triangle Ecycling and staff for making a truly impactful donation of 12 desktop computers, equipped with Windows 10 software, in addition to delivering and installing them!

Since Threshold’s reopening members have enjoyed returning to the kitchen where they are an active part of cooking, preparing, and serving the daily meals.

Threshold Reopens

Threshold has officially reopened with a limited capacity. We have infused on-site and virtual programing Monday-Thursday 8:30am - 12:00pm. We have made a rotating schedule for members, so everybody can have a chance to join the in-person fun.

Threshold will be featuring a blogging section to showcase our members and their creative abilities. Through journaling, and art they have found was to express themselves, manage stress and reflect.

We look forward to sharing this experience with our Threshold friends and supporters.

Facility Upgrades

Threshold once again, sincerely thanks the Jenny Lillian Semans Koortbojian Trust! Their grant has provided Threshold with funding to purchase 40 new sturdy vinyl chairs, that are comfortable, safe, and hygienic for members in addition to the flooring previously installed.

Threshold elves were hard at work last week delivering gifts and spreading joy! The members enjoyed a zoom hosted party as well as the opportunity to enjoy the holidays with each other. Holiday dinner will be delivered Thursday the 24th, and a zoom hosted, movie and hot coco party will take place on Friday the 25th.

With deepest thanks from a gift from the Jenny Lillian Semans Koortbojian Trust, Threshold has been able to purchase a new server and develop our technology infrastructure so that staff are able to successfully engage with members from remote locations during the pandemic. In addition, this generous gift has also funded new flooring for three of our office spaces. In addition to enhancing the beauty of our building, these floors replace old carpeting and increase our ability to keep our building clean and safe for all members.

Dental students from University of North Carolina came to threshold to assist in gardening needs. They removed weeds, harvested the vegetables, and then prepared the garden for the upcoming winter weather. Following their gardening work they gave a zoom presentation on dental hygiene.
