What is a Clubhouse?
The Clubhouse Model is based on the belief that members are partners in their own recovery, rather than merely the passive recipients of treatment, and that meaningful work and relationships are integral parts of their recovery. Members work side by side with staff to organize and administer every program, and success is dependent upon the degree to which members assume responsibility for themselves. All certified Clubhouses adhere to International Clubhouse Standards.
Does Threshold provide psychiatric treatment, including medication and therapy?
No. Threshold is a community based psychosocial rehabilitation program. Threshold members are encouraged by staff and fellow members to comply with medications and to keep appointments with their doctors, but they are not required to do so to remain members. Threshold maintains a partnership with psychiatric teams from Duke University Hospital, UNC Hospital, Central Regional Hospital, and private providers where many of our members seek medical treatment.
Why are Threshold clients referred to as members?
The Clubhouse Model focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses and is based on the idea of equality between members and staff. Members are an integral, active part of the Clubhouse. We feel that the word “member” reflects not only the voluntary nature of the Clubhouse but also the ownership that members have in it.
Am I eligible for membership at Threshold?
To be eligible for membership at Threshold, you must be a Durham County resident, age 18 or over, with an Axis I diagnosis of Major Depression with Psychotic Features, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, or Psychosis NOS.
How do I become a member?
To schedule a tour of our program and begin orientation, you must first have your case manager or your private psychiatrist send a referral to Threshold's Membership Coordinator Erica Weaver. For assistance facilitating a referral contact Erica Weaver at (919) 682-4124 or email@example.com.
What are your business hours?
Threshold is open 365 days per year, weather permitting. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 4:30, and on weekends and holidays we are open from 10:00 – 3:00. Our evening and weekend Social/Rec events may cause some slight adjustments to our hours.
What is the “one rule” of Threshold?
We really only have one “rule” here at Threshold and it is a simple rule to follow: Members shall not interfere with the rehabilitation of another member. This “rule” is designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for all who come here, including you.
Do Threshold members participate in all aspects of running the Clubhouse?
Yes. Members are involved in the intake and orientation of new members, hiring of new staff, housing support, building maintenance, policy decision making, advocacy initiatives, meal preparation and service and program development.
Does Threshold provide transportation?
Threshold members are required to provide their own transportation to and from the Clubhouse. We help members learn the bus routes and provide some transportation to employment sites not located on a bus route. Threshold does provide transportation to the main bus terminal from evening and some weekend social/rec events.
