Employment
People need purpose in their lives. One thing that gives purpose and meaning to life is work. Almost all Threshold members work either in the clubhouse to gain valuable experience and confidence, or in paid placements at companies throughout Durham and the Triangle. Through employment members gain self-esteem, their talents are recognized, they have the chance to develop new relationships and earn their own money.
Threshold offers various strategies to help support members who wish to access paid work opportunities in the community including closely monitored Transitional Employment and Supported Employment, and also provides support for members who are independently employed.
Employment Dinner
Threshold sponsors bi-weekly employment dinners. Coordinated by staff and members, these meetings provide an opportunity to share expertise, troubleshoot on-the-job problems with members, and provide general support. Threshold provides transportation home for members after these dinners.
Annual Employers Dinner
Each
September Threshold hosts a large banquet to thank TE and SE employers
and celebrate Threshold member participation in these programs.
Members dress up in their finest clothes, many donated by local individuals and businesses and enjoy a sit-down meal. After the awards and speeches, members, staff and guest light it up on the dance floor. Sponsor a table at the next Employers Dinner.
The TE program has given me the chance to work again, learn to overcome some of my learning impairments, and to add to my work experience. I have also learned how to keep my checkbook balanced to the penny for four months running.
